internet connection ok, but "not connected"
Hi all, hope someone can help. I have had my vista notebook for over a year now, and without fail it has always connected to the several local wifi networksI use. About a couple of weeks ago I went to disconnect from my home network before shutting down, right clicked on the icon in the notification area, expecting to find the disconnect from (network name). But it wasnt there, it just gave me a "connect to" option and when i hold my mouse over the icon it shows "wireless networks are available". If i go into network and sharing centre, it says not connected. But when I goto veiw full map, it shows my laptop and modem router, but no connection to gateway or internet. But I open i/e and I can surf wherever I want. I have tried remove and reinstalling drivers, creating a new user account, and also a clean boot. Nothing has changed withany of the 3 wifinetworks iuse.Whatever I do makes no difference. Short of reinstalling vista, Im stuck. Any ideas?

Hi, Normally, many computer manufacturers customize a software to enable/disable wireless connection, and this program may have a software conflict with Windows Vista. Could you please contact your computer manufacturer to check if there is the software on the computer? If so, please ask for recommended settings for Windows Vista. Thanks.

Install all the Vista's patches and test again, sometimes it can be caused by Vista bugs. Also you can remove all wireless network profiles and recreate the profile again. Hope it helps.dawooddHome Network and Wireless Network Help

Thanks for all your replies. I did try removing and reconfiguring my wireless network connections. I removed office07, my one care live security, and napster. Thats all i have on this laptop. But still no joy. So I decided to reinstall vista, WHAT A BIG MISTAKE. After countless attempts, I was very close to putting on xp. Whats the point of not being able to install an OS when you have to remove memory in order to do so! My laptop has 4gb, I had to remove memory in order to get it below 3gb. Then if that wasnt enough there was an update that wouldnt install KB929777, and you also had to fool that update, again removing memory. But anyway SP1 now installed, no problems so far.... Dont get me wrong I do like vista, really.
